CULTURAL AND SOCIAL EVENTS
Cultural awareness and participation play an integral role in a Northfields’ student’s education.
Our cultural programme has the following aims:
- To give all students the opportunity to be involved in culturally enriching activities.
- To give those students with special talents a chance to extend themselves and to grow in their area of expertise.
- To expand our students’ appreciation of cultural activities.
Celebrating events and festivals in schools have become an integral part of learning and building a strong cultural belief in a child. Northfields encourages students to embrace other traditions and culture just like the way they do with their own. We celebrate Chinese New Year, Diwali, Eid and Christmas in order to understand our country’s tradition.
Such celebration will bring students closer to traditional and cultural belief. A close bond is built between the students as they understand each other’s different customs. Being a diverse country, the students need to know what each festival means, and it is only through this celebration, he/she will get to know more about our country.
Apart from building relationship and friendship, such celebration will bring happiness and love amongst the students.Every year at Northfields, we offer a range of cultural events that students can participate in, to develop various key skills, build confidence, to encourage team spirit and to generally have fun!
Mr and Miss Northfields
The Mr and Miss Northfields event has become an annual tradition at the school and is usually our most anticipated event of the year! This is our very own pageant of sorts, where 2 students from each year group are entered for the chance of being crowned Mr and Miss Northfields! There are also opportunities to be crowned Prince or Princess of Northfields.
This exciting evening allows us to see our students in a very different light. Students step out of their comfort zones to entertain us! Students participate in 5 rounds: a fashion show, a solo or group dance, talent, question and answer.
Founders’ Day is traditionally a very important day in the school calendar when members of the school community meet to commemorate the founders of the school and who have bequeathed resources to its development. An atmosphere of celebration fills Northfields when the school community gathers to celebrate the Founder’s Day.
The chief aim is to actively develop the ambition and potential of every student, whether it is academic or any other sphere. Northfields believes that a student can achieve anything with focus, perseverance and confidence.
At Northfields, we take a special pride in saluting our beloved ‘quadricolor’- Red, blue, yellow and green. On the eve of the National Day, every year, we at Northfields salute the hard work of all our citizens who have, over these years, helped to build a new Mauritius. We recall, with pride, the struggle of our ancestors and political leaders, whose undying love for Mauritius secured us with our freedom. We remember all of those who have fought for independence from the British colony for the cause of our unity, integrity and progress.
