On Friday 25th of October 2019, the whole school was reunited to rejoice the annual celebration of Diwali. Celebrating Diwali is synonymous with siding with light forces rather than dark or choosing good over evil. Diyas (oil lamps) are lit to illuminate and guide the path through which the Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu return home. At Northfields it is a tradition to welcome the Heads of school up on stage to light up a beautiful brass lamp to inaugurate the beginning of the festivity. Following the lamp rite, we were glad to have various Year groups put together a performance to enhance the jollification of the ceremony. Year 6 students worked together to exquisitely perform a group choreography; two Year 7 girls prepared an exceptional dance mixing 2 contrasting dance styles in 1 choreography; Year 8 girls beautifully danced a contemporary dance over an Indian tune; several girls from Year 9,10 and 11 worked together to perform a magnificent mashup dance; 4 girls from Years 10,11 and 12 performed a traditional dandiya dance; and last but not least the Year 13 collaboratively worked to perform their last Diwali dance. To conclude the event, we cannot forget the fashion show who everyone eagerly anticipated, both teachers and students. After the assembly, we were all gathered on the basketball court to enjoy delicious Diwali cakes.
