On the 23rd January, Northfields celebrated Chinese New Year and ushered in the year of the water rabbit. During lunchtime, an array of activities were planned: there was the selling of delectable fried noodles to help raise funds for this year’s prom, a mesmerizing fan dance by some of our Year 7 and 8 girls followed, giving a short but sweet glance at the Chinese dance culture.
We were pleased to welcome our guests from the New Chinatown Foundation (NCF) who then proceeded to enlighten the students on Mahjong with the help of Kathleen and there was a small workshop held where the students could experience the game for themselves. Mr Lam from the NCF was also present to introduce Chinese calligraphy to our students. To end with a bang, the Attila Cultural Group performed a spectacular lion dance all around the campus. At the end of the school day, on their way out, students helped themselves to some tasty “gato zinzli” which marked off the end of this eventful and remarkable day.
